Journal 10/25/10

Explain what makes life significant for you?
I think that having the will to treat people the way that you want to be treated makes life significant. If everybody doesn't treat people the way that they should, the world would be terrible, things would be very different. People wouldn't teach their kids manors, people wouldn't have manors. Things would be terrible, the world would be chaos because everybody would be yelling at each other. Could you imagine if everybody in the world screams at the same time, that's how load it would be, everybody would be fighting, everybody would be screaming. It would be a nightmare, i think that a person has a lot of guts when they do the right thing and walk away from a fight or argument, it really makes them the bigger person, not only does it show that they care, but it shows that they know the right thing to do. so do us all a favor and treat people the way that you want to be treated.

"The Outsiders" Quote

"If you can picture a little dark puppy that had been kicked too many times and is lost in a crowd of strangers, you have Johnny." I picked this quote because it really paints a picture in your head. To me this quote just shows how fragile Johnny really is. They compared him to something that we all know and love, this quote just makes us feel bad for Johnny because of the way it is well-worded. If the author would have just simply talked about Johnny getting beat up a lot, we wouldn't get the same feeling of delicacy an frailness. They compare him to something so weak and frail, and then they tell us that he has been kicked to many time, you just feel as if you need to help, as if you know him. This sentence makes us feel as if we have known Johnny for a long time, and yet all we know is that he is a dark puppy that's been kicked to many times ad he is lost in a crowd of strangers. They paint the classic sense in our head, dark puppy, walking through a sea of strangers. This sentence is just so powerful, so strong, and yet its simply comparing a boy to a lost puppy. In the second half of this quote, they tell us that he is lost in a crowd of people, this to me says that he just doesn't know who he is, and that he cant make up his mind. It think that the author did a great job describing Johnny to us in one sentence.
